A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke 8:1-3

Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.

The Gospel of the Lord.

Encountering Christ

Jesus continues His mission of proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God. This passage highlights not only His unwavering commitment but also the vital role of those who accompany and support Him, especially the women who minister to Him out of their resources. As we reflect on these verses, we can draw three significant points to consider:

1. The Inclusivity of Jesus’ Ministry

Jesus’ ministry was not limited to a select few; it was inclusive and open to all who were willing to follow Him. Among His followers were not only the twelve apostles but also several women, including Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna. These women, healed and transformed by Jesus, became His devoted supporters and played an essential role in His mission. This inclusivity reminds us that in the Kingdom of God, every person has value and a role to play.

2. The Transformative Power of Encountering Jesus

The women mentioned in this passage experienced profound healing and transformation through their encounters with Jesus. Mary Magdalene, for instance, was freed from seven demons, symbolizing a complete and radical renewal. This transformative power of Jesus’ love and mercy is available to all of us.

3. The Generosity of Discipleship

The women who followed Jesus did so not only with their presence but also with their resources. Their generosity supported Jesus’ ministry and allowed it to flourish. This act of giving is a testament to their deep commitment and love for Him.

Action of the Day

To live out the message take a concrete step in one of these areas:

**Inclusivity:** Reach out to someone who may feel left out or isolated in your community. Invite them for a coffee, a conversation, or to join a group activity.

**Transformation:** Set aside time for a personal retreat or an extended period of prayer, asking Jesus to heal and transform any areas of your life that need His healing touch.

**Generosity:** Identify a specific need in your parish or community and find a way to contribute, whether through volunteering your time, sharing your skills, or making a financial donation.

May we, like the women who followed Jesus, offer our lives in service to the Kingdom of God, trusting that our small acts of love and generosity will bear much fruit.
