A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 15:12-17
Jesus said to his disciples: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing.
I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.This I command you: love one another.”

Encountering Christ
What a powerful, tender, and challenging Word the Lord gives us today. In these verses, Jesus opens His Sacred Heart to us. He speaks not as a distant master, not as a cold ruler, but as a Friend— as the truest and most faithful of friends. He calls us into intimacy with Him, into a relationship built not on fear or obligation, but on love—self-giving, sacrificial, enduring love.

Here, Jesus is not speaking in the abstract. He is pointing to the Cross. He is pointing to the full extent of His love—a love that suffers, bleeds, forgives, and never turns back. A love that redeems. And then He turns and commands us to love like that.
That’s not a suggestion. That’s not a feel-good quote for a greeting card. It’s a commandment—one rooted in the very nature of God, who is Love.
He says: “I no longer call you slaves… I have called you friends.”
What dignity! What mercy! God elevates us—not because of what we’ve earned, but because of who He is. He calls us friends and entrusts us with His mission: to go and bear fruit that will remain. This isn’t about productivity as the world measures it; this is about love that endures, truth that saves, and grace that transforms lives for eternity.
We are chosen. Chosen.
Not overlooked. Not rejected. Not random.
Each of us—personally, intentionally, lovingly—chosen by Christ.
Action of the Day
Examine your love.
Ask yourself: Is my love like Christ’s? Does it cost me something? Is it patient, merciful, and forgiving?
Action: Make a daily examen this week focusing only on how you loved others. Where did you succeed? Where did you fall short?
Choose sacrificial friendship.
True friendship in Christ involves vulnerability, loyalty, and even suffering.
Action: Reconnect with someone who needs encouragement or reconciliation. Offer your time or presence, even if it’s inconvenient.
Be a bearer of lasting fruit.
Jesus appoints us to bear fruit that will endure—fruit of the Spirit, acts of charity, lives changed.
Action: Engage in one intentional act of service this week that has lasting impact: visit the sick, mentor a youth, support a struggling parent, or serve a parish ministry with joy.
Pray in Jesus’ name with trust.
He says: “Whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” But to ask in His name means aligning our heart with His.
Action: Begin every day this week with a prayer like:
“Jesus, help me to love today as You love. Guide my thoughts, words, and actions. Make me fruitful in You.”
Live chosen.
Don’t let the world convince you you’re not enough. Christ Himself chose you. You are enough!
Action: Write down your gifts, your calling, and your mission. Ask God to bless and multiply them for His glory.
