Jesus said to his disciples:
“Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds;
and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Which one of you would hand his son a stone
when he asked for a loaf of bread,
or a snake when he asked for a fish?
If you then, who are wicked,
know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your heavenly Father give good things
to those who ask him.
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ!
Reflection: God answer our prayers.
In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus encourages the disciples to ask the Heavenly Father for their needs and assures them that God will grant their requests. We all have different needs. Whether it is to be healed from our ailments to attain good health, or to be a successful student and attain good paying jobs.
Our needs can be more immediate like to flee from danger occurring where we currently live, to gain safety for our children, families and friends from violence, or to free them from poverty or oppression happening all over the world.
Brothers and sisters, be encouraged! Our heavenly Father knows, sees and hears all things. He knows what we need even before we pray and ask him. He is our loving Father who cares and loves us. God answers our prayers and He provides for our needs.
The answer we receive may be a yes, a no or a not yet. A yes to our prayer request could be mean receiving exactly what we asked for, or receiving something better or something that we actually needed.
A no to our prayer request could mean that we may have prayed for something that may be harmful to us, or it is not yet the proper time, and sometimes better will be coming along that we actually need.
The key is to trust in our heavenly Father and have faith that “He will” answer our prayers at the proper time and place according to His will. As our Lord Jesus encourages the disciples, “If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.
In humility, trust that God is always with us and He hears us, He is there to protect us, He provides for all our needs by His presence in everyone and in all creation. Things may not look so good at first, but rest assured, nothing escapes the sight of God. His righteousness and justice will prevail in the end as He moves us all to help and love one another through the guidance of His Holy Spirit.
God will answer all our prayers and our heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him.
Action for the Day:
In quiet prayer, continue to lift up our petitions to God. Ask our Lord Jesus to increase our faith, and to guide us through His Spirit on how best to serve Him by helping those around us, especially the ones in need with the gifts and talents that we have received. May we all be a source of hope, joy and encouragement to all.
